Joint Sealant Replacement Elizabeth Quay

AMS Seal recently completed joint sealant replacement at Elizabeth Quay for CBRE, carrying out remediation works within the Water Park on the Perth foreshore.

The project involved removing old mastic from joints throughout the paved Water Park area and reinstating the joints as part of our joint sealing services in Perth. Working within an established public space required careful attention to the surrounding paving, drainage infrastructure and other finished surfaces.

The existing mastic within sections of the Water Park had reached the stage where replacement was required.

AMS Seal’s works included:

Cutting out and removing the existing mastic
Preparing the existing joint areas for reinstatement
Installing new joint sealant
Working around curved paving, drainage channels and water feature infrastructure
Completing the works while protecting the surrounding finished surfaces

A suitable commercial joint sealing system was used for the reinstatement works.

The specific sealant system is selected according to the requirements of the joint, substrate and operating environment. For this project, the replacement needed to be appropriate for an exposed public area subject to regular pedestrian traffic and environmental conditions.

Why Was the Joint Sealant Replaced?

Joint sealants do not last indefinitely. Exposure to movement, weather, moisture and ongoing use can gradually cause existing mastic to deteriorate.

Once joint sealant has deteriorated, replacing it helps restore the joint and maintain an effective seal between adjoining surfaces.

At Elizabeth Quay, the existing mastic was removed rather than simply applying new material over the old sealant. The joints could then be prepared and reinstated with new material to provide a clean and durable result.
